CONFERENCE FOR CHILDCARE PROVIDERS SET FOR APRIL 26,2008 AT NMSU-A

In order to give the children of Otero County and Lincoln County the best care through home day care, as well as through childcare centers, the providers must have training on a regular basis.

The Regional Early Care and Education (RECE) Conference provides this training to our providers, and is scheduled for April 26, 2008, begining with registration at 7:15 A.M. The doors will close for registration at 8:00am.

This conference is FREE? This conferences, held statewide, are designed to help child care providers meet the training hours required by CYFD registration and licensing regulation.

The RECE Conference is also open to parents and community members interested in child care issues. First of all, due to the huge turn out in previous years, a pre-registration will be required. Same day drop-ins will only be accommodated if there is room. You can pick up a pre-registration form at CHINS, 501 24th. , Alamogordo NM, 88310 or call 434-9588.

The first class will start at 8:00 am until 10:00am. There will be a break from 10:00 to 10:30, and the second class will start at 10:30 am until 12:30pm. A snack will be given out at registration.

The goals of the conference include: meeting learning needs by offering interactive worksshops providing guidance and interpretation of state and federal rules and regulations for child and adult care providers: providing nutrition information to improve the nutrition status of children and adults in sponsored programs providing a forum for agencies to reach providers on topics of local interest: improving health promotion efforts in child care programs and improving collaboration among agencies and organizations related to child care issues.

Workshops provided by the RECE Conference will fulfill requirements for training in the following competency areas: Child Growth, Development and Learning: Health, Safety, and Nutrition, Family and Community Collaboration: Developmentally Appropriate Content: Learning Environment and Curriculum Implementation: Assessment of Children and Programs and Professionalism.

Sponsors of this event include NMSU-A, CHINS Child and Adult Care Food Program, Prevention and Intervention Division of CYFD (Child Care Services Bureau and Child Care Licensing), La Vida Institue, HAFB Family Child Care, and Community Action.

The earlier you register, the better chance you have of getting the workshop you want. Here is some information on some of the classes we are offering: Spanish classes, crafts, nutrition, teaching respect using the act method, tray tasking hands on making of games for pre-math and pre-reading skills, understanding stress and solving the problems, and Domestic Violence.
